Consider your pay historyYou aren’t required to impart this to your enrollment specialist. Be that as it may, they can (and should) inquire. Also, it may be helpful for you both to be on the same wavelength when it comes time to making sense of which applications fit you best.7. Know the intricate details of industry salaryIf you need to go for a boost in salary, ensure you’ve gotten your work done and know precisely what the range is for your position or your field. On the off chance that you’re truly being come up short on, you can stroll into a gathering with stats.8. Don’t be a pushoverSome enrollment specialists accomplish work totally on commission. On the off chance that they don’t place individuals that month, they don’t pay lease. Don’t let yourself get shoe-horned into a place that isn’t directly for you just to satisfy your selection representative. It is alright to state no and push for something more appropriate.9. Clutch the great onesA great enrollment specialist, with whom you have a productive working relationship, is a wondrous thing. Clutch this relationship with two hands. Trust and generosity are not to be underestimated. What's more, they aren’t consistently the norm.10. Give backIf you land the position, make a point to thank your selection representative. A note to say thanks goes far towards demonstrating your thankfulness and reinforcing positive attitude all around. What's more, stay in contact! No one can really tell when you may require your recruiter’s benefits once more.

Time Is More Valuable

â€Å"Time is more significant than cash. You can get more cash, yet you can't get additional time. † In the exposition â€Å"How America Has Run Out Of Time†, Nancy Gibbs examines how the incorporation of innovation into the workforce negatively affects the lives of Americans. Innovation was intended to make work simpler and quicker giving additional time that can be spent unreservedly. Rather, it had the contrary impact causing longer work hour and less time for family. I accept innovation in the work spot may have a more profound effect American life. Innovation has assisted with changing the idea of the work.Technology like the Internet has assisted with interfacing organizations inside just as internationally with data. Correspondence has gotten quick and basic with the utilization of email and video or telephone meeting, and yet it has made the work place indifferent. With this it diminishes the need to meet up close and personal. Socialization inside the work pla ce decline and there is less â€Å"water cooler moments† where representatives meet and have discussions. There is a lessening feeling of trust, bonds and cooperation present. With the decrease in trust there is a decrease in work-life balance.Technology furnishes us with a boundless gracefully of data and an approach to remain associated. â€Å"There are telephones in the vehicle, workstations in the lair, and murmuring fax machine dispenses with the once quiet break between finishing a record and conveying it. (602)† The steady availability gradually obscures the line among work and relaxation. One might say individuals are continually working. Individuals can proceed with their work at home in the wake of leaving the workplace or even work from home. In any event, when they are not working, representatives can access and answer to email messages from work by means of their PC and cell phone. As work days expanded, negative wellbeing impacts did also. Long working hou rs doesn't just influence a laborer's efficiency. Extended periods of time implied less time for a person to rest, which can make dozing issues and increment the possibility of being in a business related mishap. Another outcome can be the ascent of worry because of the need of an upper hand. The pressure can prompt either hypertension and coronary illness or terrible wellbeing propensities, for example, smoking and undesirable eating. Additional time invested working implied less energy with the family. Some guardians feel stressed and exhausted attempting to shuffle the duties at home and at work. Most occasions this breaks the bond among parent and youngsters in light of the fact that there is less spotlight on the kid. As guardians are working, the youngster is dealt with by a sitter. Different occasions the youngster may take up the parental job and deal with themselves while the guardians are away. â€Å"The very culture of kids, of opportunity and dream and children instructi ng children to play jacks, is falling under the heaviness of rushed family plan. 605)† The structure of American life has changed since innovation was presented in the work power. Individuals are on a quick pace calendar to manage the time imperative brought about by work. The availability of innovation is making individuals exhaust to battle the opposition looked in the affordable market. Workaholic behavior causes strain on our own lives and the family life, regardless of whether it is ignoring the obligations and obligations as a parent or not investing energy with our life partner. As the sun set and approaches the end, inquire as to whether you can locate some leisure time from work?

Hierarchy and Honor in The Arabian Nights - Literature Essay Samples

Social hierarchy is a civilizations categorization of people into ranks of political power and social influence based upon factors such as one’s occupation, wealth, and social prestige (Oxford). The Arabian Nights: One Thousand and One Nights is famous for its series of tales primarily narrated by Scheherazade, whose insufferable husband, King Shahryar wedded and executed women each night in hopes of obtaining the honor he once lost when his primary wife had cheated on him. The Arabian Night’s plot of King Shahryar’s pursuit of honor is so meaningful because of the notation throughout history which states that social hierarchy is established by one’s social prestige; therefore by the king’s actions in obtaining his identity and honor back by executing women, he would naturally obtain a more significant hierarchy within his society. Honor is essential for the characters in these series of tales because it is the single most priceless recognition of achievement of their morals, and prestige. Since hierarchy was an essential cultural aspect in history, and honor was needed in order to achieve hierarchy, the only normal and natural way for the characters of this story to achieve social hierarchy is through honor; which enables characters to conduct poor life-threatening actions and choices in order to obtain prestigious social hierarchy. King Shahryar’s quest for social hierarchy guided by the influence of honor motivates him to make unmoral decisions. Naturally, King Shahryar makes decisions with little to no regard to traditional ‘right’ and ‘wrong’ standards of behavior. Shahryar is clearly the upmost of hierarchy because of his prestige honor in being a King and ruler of his civilization. Nonetheless, one further way in which King Shahryar obtains hierarchy and authority over ot hers is by his actions through wedding and murdering countless amounts of women. When King Shahryar discovers that his wife is cheating on him, he says in disgust How could she do this deed by me? How could she work her own death? As this quote reveals, King Shahryar is not displeased because of his wife’s unmoral act of cheating, but more offended by her dishonor to his name. When King Shahryar catches his wife with another man, he does not show any signs of remorse. Instead, he quickly states that she ‘had just arranged her death’. This is because when King Shahryar’s wife cheats on him, Shahryer losses some masculine traits such as assertiveness, strength, and power. When the king’s masculinity is jeopardized he loses his own identity because his prestige is the only thing that defines him. When faced with the threat of losing his masculine persona, he implements his plan to wed a woman each night and kill her the next morning because he is undoubtedly unsecure about his identity and is willing to break his morals in order to achieve it back; He also swore himself by a binding oath that whatever wife he married, he would abate her maidenhead at night and slay her next morning to make sure of his honour; (16). Slaying thousands of women gives him a sense of honor, by asserting his honor; he becomes a representational figure of strength and authority thus making him a representational figure of hierarchy over women. Theses actions to obtain hierarchy are only conducted during a time when the king’s identity was in jeopardy; therefore the authors and translator of The Arabian Nights: One Thousand and One Nights illustrate that the acti ons taken by King Shahryar to defend one’s honor in obtaining hierarchy is something to be fraud upon. Scheherazade challenges the traditional pyramid of social hierarchy during the time period that One Thousand and One Nights was written by defending women’s worth. Traditionally, men had precedence of social hierarchy over females, especially when King Shahryar was committing executions of women. In honor of all women’s worth, Scheherazade attempts and succeeds in stopping the mindless executions of women in her society by volunteering herself to be romantically involved with a murderous king. Scheherazade expressed to her family â€Å"I will never desist, O my father, nor shall this tale change my purpose. Leave such talk and tattle. I will not listen to thy words and, if thou deny me, I will marry myself to him despite the nose of thee† (Burton Chap.2). By Scheherazade’s life-risking act of forming a halt to the king’s binge of murders, she unofficially becomes ‘above’ King Shahryar on their society’s social hierarchy scale. Additionally, Scheherazade puts herself as the representational figure of all women when she states â€Å"Either I shall live or I shall be a ransom for the virgin daughter s of Moslems and the cause of their deliverance from his hands and thine. In this statement, Scheherazade puts herself in hierarchy of all women as she speaks on behalf and makes a decision for all women in her society. Additionally, the author of The Arabian Nights: One Thousand and One Nights suggest in this statement that Scheherazade’s defense of honor and becoming of greater hierarchy can be a bad idea that puts her in a dangerous position between life and death. Although Scheherazade makes a well-intentioned decision based on her upmost morals unlike King Shahryar who unmorally obtains his honor, her decision is not any better. Scheherazade’s actions still put her safety at risk in saving the thousands of other women, which make her actions a bad decision. Although her actions and words put her in hierarchy of all of society’s wellbeing, hierarchy obtained through honor is presented as a dangerous decision, concluding that not all honorary decisions are go od ones. The Arabian Nights: One Thousand and One Night’s plot is largely influenced by the contribution of Scheherazade’s and King Shahryar’s quest for honor, which subsequently puts them into a superior social hierarchal rank above the rest of society. Hierarchy through honor could prevalently be seen when King Shahryar attempts to regain honor by killing thousands of woman, subsequently becoming a figure of hierarchy over women because he becomes in control of women, their where a bouts, and well being. This notation is furthermore present when Scheherazade decides to take initiative and honor women’s worth by volunteering herself to be the king’s next wife so that he will no longer conduct an execution each night. By conducting an action on behalf of all women in her society as well as controlling the king’s actions, Scheherazade becomes of a greater hierarchy over King Shahryar and women in their civilization. The actions that characters choose to pursue to defend their honor reveal the character’s morals: for instance, when King Shahryar kills women he reveals that he has little concern for morals. Likewise, Scheherazade reveals that she is willing to risk her life to defend morality by stopping the king’s executions. Hierarchy is known as the order of power between permanent objects and human beings; equally in this tale, hierarchy among society is most achieved through the amount of honor one consumes through various bad decisions. Boko Haram A Deadly Mission - 1625 Words

Humans feel uncomfortable when they see people who are different; people with different races, cultures, religions, and personalities. There may be specific reasons for their dislike; whether a group of people are supposedly the cause for economic crisis, or they are associated with terrorists. People learn to accept differences and work together, but in extreme cases where the tensions are high things may get out of control. A current group who is on track for genocide, Boko Haram, looks to put a â€Å"ban on all things Western† (The Deadly Mission Of Boko Haram.). This is a terror group that will stop at nothing to get what it covets. Boko Haram operates in Nigeria, which is the most populated country in Africa. According to the article,†¦show more content†¦This group took on the name Boko Haram; â€Å"Boko† means â€Å"Western Civilization† and â€Å"Haram† means â€Å"is sinful†. These teaching came at a beneficial timing for the group because there had been much doubt in the government due to the immense poverty. As a result he was able to lure in many vulnerable, religiously-inclined youths to embrace his new ideas. (Salaam). CNN reports that the man who ruled under Yusuf was a man named Abubakar Shekau. Little is known about Shekau, who operates behind the shadows, and only appears periodically in his videos. Shekau was born in Shekau village which borders Niger, and he went to Borno State College of Legal and Islamic Studies for higher studies on Islam. He speaks in many tongues which include Hausa, Fulani, Kanuri, and Arabic. His age is unclear, ranging from 38 to 49. Analysts describe Shekau as a loner and a master of disguise; he doesn t speak directly with members, but only through a few select confidants. He also has many aliases, which makes him even harder to track. When Yusuf was in power, he had a hard time keeping Shekau in check because Shekau was more radical and had grander designs. When Yusuf wa s killed along with 700 radicals in a security crackdown in 2009, it led Shekau to be put in charge. Shekau vowed he would strike revenge and has been ruthless ever since by killing all kinds of people. Shekau used a similar process that Yusuf used to recruit new militants for his group. He targeted

A Civil Rebuttal Essay Example For Students

A Civil Rebuttal Essay A Civil Rebuttal Essay Philosophy a:pursuit of wisdom. b:a search for a general understanding of values and reality by chiefly speculative rather than observational means. Through this most specific definition given to us respectively by Sir Websters dictionary, I choose in my best interest to refrain to you just what the meaning of philosophy is. I implore you to try and comprehend this matter in what exactly this word brought abrupt to us is about. The word philosophy has two definitive definitions. Is it not that we all think? I was deeply saddened at your comments in the oppression and restriction to what I may or may not strive to think. As a pacifist and non- sadist, I call what you believe in as ingraining or indoctrination, whereas our own society may call it brainwashing. Our human nature gives us freedom, as does the Constitution. It guarantees us the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Within the refines of this home, I find it a task to see those liberties granted. Here is a few of the worlds greatest oppressors: Jim Jones, Adolph Hitler, Napoleon Bonaparte, Julius Caesar, David Koresh, and Anton Szandor LaVey. I know, as well as you, that these notorious six are among the worlds most hated. However here are a few oppressors from another standpoint: Sigmund Freud, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Jesus Christ, Mahatma Ghandi, and Siddharta Guatama the Buddha. These are the exact opposite of the previously mentioned, who put an oppression into a good morality. Its not about who uses the gift, its the entirety of the users ethics. The second definition of the word philosophy aptly states that it is the desire to learn more through speculation rather than observation. Without speculation, we as a planet would be at loss. There would never have been discoveries of planets, medicinal uses, genetic finds, and behavioral studies. Lets face it, without philosophy, we would still get leeched at the doctors for the common cold. These fine discoveries were all made by philosophers. Now these philosophers were brave enough to challenge science, the government, and even the Church. Now, I am not one to stand here and say that I will believe in unholy blasphemy, but rather I feel I should receive the liberty to speak freely as long as I hold myself in a civil and adult manner. In conclusion to this essay, I must tell you that this in itself is my philosophy. I believe it was the great reformist Voltaire who says, I do not agree with a single word you say, but will fight to the death your right to say it. In some respects, I feel non-indifferent to his theory. So I beseech you to help yourselves as well as others in this house to let me speak freely of my philosophy, for the word is simply a synonym to the word think. The famous quote, I think, therefore I am. .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845 , .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845 .postImageUrl , .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845 .centered-text-area { min-height: 80px; position: relative; } .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845 , .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845:hover , .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845:visited , .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845:active { border:0!important; } .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845 .clearfix:after { content: ""; display: table; clear: both; } .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845 { display: block; transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; width: 100%; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #95A5A6; } .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845:active , .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; background-color: #2C3E50; } .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845 .centered-text-area { width: 100%; position: relative ; } .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845 .ctaText { border-bottom: 0 solid #fff; color: #2980B9; font-size: 16px; font-weight: bold; margin: 0; padding: 0; text-decoration: underline; } .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845 .postTitle { color: #FFFFFF; font-size: 16px; font-weight: 600; margin: 0; padding: 0; width: 100%; } .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845 .ctaButton { background-color: #7F8C8D!important; color: #2980B9; border: none; border-radius: 3px; box-shadow: none; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold; line-height: 26px; moz-border-radius: 3px; text-align: center; text-decoration: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-height: 80px; background: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/plugins/intelly-related-posts/assets/images/simple-arrow.png)no-repeat; position: absolute; right: 0; top: 0; } .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845:hover .ctaButton { background-color: #34495E!important; } .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845 .centered-text { display: table; height: 80px; padding-left : 18px; top: 0; } .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845 .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845-content { display: table-cell; margin: 0; padding: 0; padding-right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-align: middle; width: 100%; } .ued71415dbddcf469b9b46a9862bfd845:after { content: ""; display: block; clear: both; } READ: Sacrifice within the Israelite Religion Essay supports my belief and should support yours. Multiple Essays - Psychiatric Diagnosis, Abnormal Psychology

Multiple Personality Disorders Multiple Personality Disorder (MPD) or Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID) was first recognized in the 1700's but was not understood so therefore it was forgotten. Many cases show up in medical records through the years, but in 1905, Dr. Morton Prince wrote a book about MPD that is a foundation for the disorder. A few years after it was published Sigmund Freud dismissed the disorder and this dropped it from being discussed at any credible mental health meetings. Since then the disorder has been overlooked and misdiagnosed as either schizophrenia or psychosis. Many in the medical profession did not believe that a person could unknowingly have more than one personality or person inside one body, even after the in the 1950's Three Faces of Eve was published by two psychiatrist. In 1993, records showed that three to five thousand patients were being treated for MPD compared to the hundred cases reported ten years earlier. There is still as increase in the number of cases being reported as the scientific community learns more and more about the disease and the public is becoming more and more aware of this mental disorder. There are still many questions left unanswered about the disease, like "Is it genetic?" or "Is a certain type of personality more vulnerable to the disorder?" but many aspects of how people come by the disorder are already answered (Clark, 1993, p.17-19) MPD is commonly found in adults who were recurrently abused mentally, physically, emotionally, and/or sexually as young children, between birth to 8 years of age. The child uses a process called dissociation to remove him/herself from the abusive situation. Dissociation is when a child makes up an imaginary personality to take control of the mind and body while the child is being abused. The child can imagine many personalities but usually there is a personality for every feeling and or emotion that was involved during the abuse (BoyyM, 1998, p.1). As an adult, the abused child finds it hard to keep track of time and may have episodes of amnesia. Other symptoms that will appear in adults with MPD are depression, auditory and visual hallucinations (hearing voices) and suicidal thoughts. Another major symptom is when the adult has no recollection of their childhood. The adult with MPD has no idea they were abused as children and also unaware of the other personalities living inside of their head (Multiple Personality Disorder-fact sheet, 1996-99, p.1). Multiple Personality Disorder is when there is "the presence of two or more distinct identities or personalities, each with its own relatively enduring pattern of perceiving, relating to, and thinking about the environment and self"(BoyyM, 1998, p.1). There can be anywhere from two to over a hundred different personalities. Usually each personality will fall into one of the following categories: core, host, protectors, internal self-helper, fragments, child members, preteen, teenager, adults, artistic/music, cross-gender, cross-colored, animal members, inanimate members (BoyyM, 1998, p. 2-3). The host personality is the person who is the multiple, this is the original personality, or the one that created the other personalities, but is unaware of them. The most common apparent identities are the child, persecutor, rescuer, and helper. The child is the identity that is under the age of twelve. They behave as children often sucking thumbs, twisting hair, like to eat cookies, throw tantrums, and use child-like vocabulary. The Persecutor identity is the self-destructive identity that is violent and angry. Persecutor identities usually have a drug/alcohol problem and generally put the host at risk. The rescuer personality is usually devoid of emotion but logical, able, proficient, and responsible. The helper personality knows the most about the history of the multiple; they generally want to help everyone for the general good. The helper personality is the personality that is most helpful in therapy because they usually know about all the other identities (Clark, 1993, p.80-83). Subpersonalities are not only part of a person with MPD but they are also evident in emotionally normal persons as well. Although, in a normal person, he/she remembers when their subpersonality takes over, but in a MPD patient, the personality disconnects from the host that the host can not remember what happens. When a traumatic experience happens, whether positive or negative, a subpersonality will develop. In a normal person, the splitting is broken into an "ok self" and a "not ok self". In a multiple, the personalities are more defined; they are broken into smaller fragments that disassociate from the human host (Rowan, 1990, p. 7, 20). In the book by Terri A. Clark, M.D., it shows the

'Fahrenheit 451' Quotes When Ray Bradbury wrote Fahrenheit 451 in 1953, television was gaining popularity for the first time, and Bradbury was concerned about its increasing influence in everyday peoples lives. In Fahrenheit 451, the contrast between passive entertainment (television) and critical thought (books) is a central concern. Many of the quotes in Fahrenheit 451 emphasize Bradbury’s argument that passive entertainment is mind-numbing and even destructive, as well as his belief that worthwhile knowledge requires effort and patience. The following quotes represent some of the most significant ideas and arguments within the novel. â€Å"It was a pleasure to burn. It was a special pleasure to see things eaten, to see things blackened and changed. With the brass nozzle in his fists, with this great python spitting its venomous kerosene upon the world, the blood pounded in his head, and his hands were the hands of some amazing conductor playing all the symphonies of blazing and burning to bring down the tatters and charcoal ruins of history.† (Part 1) These are the opening lines of the novel. The passage describes Guy Montags work as a Fireman, which in this dystopian world means that he burns books, rather than putting out fires. The quote contains details about Montag using his flamethrower to destroy a stock of illegal books, but the language the quote employs contains much more depth. These lines serve as a declaration of the central motif of the novel: the belief that humans prefer the easy, gratifying path over anything that requires effort. Bradbury uses lush, sensual language to describe the act of destruction. Through the use of words like pleasure and amazing, burning books is depicted as fun and enjoyable. The act of burning is also described in terms of power, suggesting that Montag is reducing all of history to tatters and charcoal with his bare hands. Bradbury uses animal imagery (the great python) to show that Montag is operating on a primitive and instinctive level: pleasure or pain, hunger or satiation. â€Å"Coloured people dont like Little Black Sambo. Burn it. White people dont feel good about Uncle Toms Cabin. Burn it. Someones written a book on tobacco and cancer of the lungs? The cigarette people are weeping? Bum the book. Serenity, Montag. Peace, Montag. Take your fight outside. Better yet, into the incinerator.† (Part 1) Captain Beatty makes this statement to Montag as a justification for book-burning. In the passage, Beatty argues that books cause trouble, and that by eliminating access to information, society will achieve serenity and peace. The statement underscores what Bradbury sees as the slippery slope leading to dystopia: intolerance of ideas that cause discomfort or unease. â€Å"I dont talk things. I talk the meaning of things. I sit here and know Im alive.† (Part 2) This statement, made by the character Faber, emphasizes the importance of critical thought. For Faber, considering the meaning of information- not just passively absorbing it- is what enables him to know [hes] alive. Faber contrasts talk[ing] the meaning of things with simply talk[ing] things, which in this passage refers to meaningless, superficial information-sharing or absorption devoid of any context or analysis. The loud, flashy, and virtually meaningless TV shows in the world of Fahrenheit 451, are a prime example of media that does nothing more than talk[ing] things. In this context, books themselves are merely objects, but they become powerful when readers use critical thought to explore the meaning of the information the books contain. Bradbury explicitly links the act of thinking and processing information with being alive. Consider this idea of aliveness in relation to Montags wife Millie, who is constantly passively absorbing television and repeatedly attempts to end her own life. â€Å"Books arent people. You read and I look around, but there isnt anybody!† (Part 2) Montag’s wife, Millie, rejects Montag’s efforts to force her to think. When Montag tries to read aloud to her, Millie reacts with increasing alarm and violence, at which point she makes the above statement. Millies statement encapsulates what Bradbury sees as part of the problem of passive entertainment like television: it creates the illusion of community and activity. Millie feels that she is engaging with other people when she is watching television, but in fact she is simply sitting alone in her living room. The quote is also an example of irony. Millies complaint that books arent people is supposed to contrast with the human contact she feels when watching television. In fact, however, books are the product of human minds expressing themselves, and when you read you are making a connection with that mind over time and space. â€Å"Stuff your eyes with wonder. Live as if youd drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. Its more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories. Ask for no guarantees, ask for no security, there never was such an animal.† (Part 3) This statement is made by Granger, the leader of a group that memorizes books in order to pass the knowledge on to a future generation. Granger is speaking to Montag as they watch their city go up in flames. The first part of the statement implores the listener to see, experience, and learn about as much of the world as possible. He likens the mass-produced world of television to a factory of false fantasies, and argues that exploring the real world brings greater fulfillment and discovery than factory-made entertainment. At the end of the passage, Granger concedes that there never was such an animal as security- knowledge may very well bring discomfort and danger, but there is no other way to live.

Reading Response - Essay Example In this film, director Lourdes Portillo shows various testimonies from the victims’ families, which, if only used properly, can help catch the real criminal/criminals. The film also indicates a possible collusion between the police and the criminals, where it is highly probable that some of the police are rapists too, since they have not duly resolved this long-standing investigation. Unfortunately, the local and central government are blind and deaf to the pleas of families, friends, and supporters of the deceased. To make matters worse, the cosmetics industry, through MAC and its collaboration with Rodarte, shows either apathy or absurdity in creating a cosmetics line called â€Å"Juarez.† Julianne Hing reports how consumers negatively reacted to the line. I appreciate that beauty and fashion bloggers made an outcry against this tasteless beauty line. These works underscore how insane these killings are because they reveal the ugliness of gender and social class codes and the ugliness of beauty brands. These works are connected to the social construction of gender, specifically, the visibility and invisibility of gender. Judith Lorber, in â€Å"Night to His Day: The Social Construction of Gender,† talks about how society creates and reinforces gender through different social, economic, political, and legal structures. Lorber stresses that â€Å"the most powerful means of sustaining the moral hegemony of the dominant gender ideology of the dominant gender ideology is that the process is made invisible†¦Ã¢â‚¬ (58). My analysis is that gender makes femininity and masculinity visible and then makes it invisible through making society accept gender beliefs and attitudes. In the case of disappearing and raped women in Juarez, their gender and social class are the main reasons that they are invisible to their government. Nieves argues for the connection between gender and lack of

Book Review for Principles of Curriculum Construction Essay

Book Review for Principles of Curriculum Construction - Essay Example makes serious note of this, and, as powerful examples of his approach in this book, Gardner describes an education that illuminates the theory of evolution, the music of Mozart, and the lessons of the Holocaust, for instance. Within this book, Gardner envisions an education that preserves the strengths of a traditional humane education while at the same time fully preparing younger generations for the many challenges that will face them in the future. This book is truly one of great intelligence and efficiency, and there are many different issues within it that need to be discussed in order to be able to actually gain a proper and knowledgeable understanding on the book and the purpose of the book overall. The aim of this paper is to show the reasoning and purpose behind the book, as well as the key and significant issues that are dealt within the book. This is what will be dissertated in the following. Howard Gardner is a man whose work around multiple intelligences has had an incredibly profound impact on thinking and practice in education, and although his theory of multiple intelligences has not yet been readily accepted within academic psychology, it has however met with a strongly positive response from many educations, and as well it has truly been embraced by a range of educational theorists and, significantly, applied by teachers and policymakers to the problems of schooling. In this particular book of his, Gardner makes several points in particular quite major, such as the fact of how he believes that there is much more information that students need to know compared to the amount that they are presently receiving. The way in which Gardner’s theory of multiple intelligences has been translated into policy and practice has really been quite varied, and although Gardner certainly did not initially spell out the actual implications of his theory for educators in any detail, but subsequently, he has worked by looking more closely at what the theory

Mtv Research Paper Essay Example for Free

Mtv Research Paper Essay The first song that was played on MTV was called â€Å"Video killed the Radio Star†. It was sung by a group called The Buggles. This was a very popular song all over and it was deemed a good choice for the first song broadcasted. Many people also believed that the meaning of the song was that MTV, the new music video broadcasting station was going to destroy the radio. Some people thought that the song was performed live, but it was just a video. MTV was quite a big hit by the 1990’s. It was viewed in over 50 million American homes. It became a target for all advertisers because of the number of young viewers that watched MTV. The kids would beg their parents to buy the products they saw on the advertisements and it made out to be a good investment for advertisers. The attention and money that the advertisers brought in was good for MTV because they got more offers to get commercial time which means more money for them. Some people that were on MTV when it was in its first few years were Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Sheryl Crow, Cranberries, and Nirvana. They helped to kind of kick off the show and set it up for successful years to come. There are also some big-named people who probably played music from that MTV which helped to jump start their career. Madonna, Michael Jackson, Prince, Peter Gabriel, U2, and Duran Duran were some of the people that were all a part of MTV at one time. In a way, these people also helped MTV to get a good start too. The more big names that they brought in the more attention they got from viewers. This was good for the singers and MTV. The target audience that MTV chose was teens age 12 to 21. With this age group, they found that they got very good viewing rates. Artists whose songs were played on MTV found that the sales of their song increased. This is what gave advertisers the idea that they could do good business if they had an ad on MTV. With this targeted audience, they also found that their viewing rates continued to rise. Today they still target the same audience and they are still very successful in the way that they draw the audience. There have been a few changes in MTV since the start. They released a new logo after 30 years. It is not much different. It is just a little bit bigger and it is one color. The last was a mix between a few colors. The old one was designed by Frank Olinsky and it was a very big hit, but it was just time for a change. In 1986, the President and CEO, Robert Pittman left. There is no exact explanation why but he did. Over time, they started to show more reality shows than anything else. Some people liked the change to more reality shows but some people like the old school music videos all the time. There were some companies and investors that made it possible for MTV to even start. Warner Communications and American Express were big investors that helped in the starting of the show. Warner Amex was basically the main establisher and owner for about five years after the start. Then, in 1986, Viacom purchased MTV from Warner Amex. Now Viacom is the owner with all rights to MTV. There are other networks that MTV and Viacom own. They own VH1 that was released in 1985 and its purpose was to play adult contemporary. Then, in 1996, MTV2 was released to allow fans to see commercial free music videos. MTV (the original) became available in Manhattan and Los Angeles. Many people called this the second launch of MTV. They also own all Nickelodeon stations, Comedy Central, and CMT. This is not all; it is just a few that you may know. Although MTV has been very popular, it has also had a few controversial shows that some fans did not agree with. â€Å"Beavis and Butthead† was very controversial because some viewers felt that it was pointless and that the language was a bad influence for some of the younger audience that watched it. â€Å"Celebrity Deathmatch† was a part of this list because it made fun of the celebrities and it had bad language and violence. â€Å"16 and Pregnant† was another show that some people did not like because it could encourage some of the younger viewers to engage in sexual intercourse which is the problem with the people on the show. It is meant to deter kids from ending up like that but it only encourages some. â€Å"Jersey Shore† was the last show that people did not agree with. They believe that the people on the show are irresponsible and kids these days may think it’s cool and try to be like them. Over the years, MTV has had an impact on our generation, but also on our parents’ generation. A lot of younger teens’ parents that are around (14) grow up watching MTV. It is not the same now as it was then because of the popularity in different kinds of music over the years and they are now showing more reality shows. MTV also has an effect on its viewers. Most people that have ever seen MTV are probably hooked on it and they like to watch it. Also, the persuasion by friends to tell other friends to watch it because it is ‘cool’; and you aren’t if you don’t watch it. MTV has been very important over its years in various ways. It has brought a whole new way to experience music. Before MTV, you could only hear music over the radio, but when MTV aired, it played music videos, which was a whole new element to music over all. They have also helped lots of artists to grow and become more popular with just a few minutes of air time. This gas truly helped many people become more popular. With music videos, many people became more persuaded into buying the song even though they may not like the song. Even if they really like the video, they would still buy it because of the video and they weren’t paying attention to the song. It is very smart on the part of the broadcasters because they could just draw in an audience with an exciting video and you would think nothing of the song, just the video.

Educational Philosophy :: Education Teaching Classroom Teachers Essays

Educational Philosophy â€Å"I’m gonna be a teacher!† I remember telling my second grade teacher, Ms. Akers. It was time to prepare for Open House and we were doing projects based upon our chosen life profession. It was wonderful being in the second grade – you could be anything in the world. And I wanted to be a teacher. That was nearly twenty-five years ago, and my decision still stands. Experience and maturity have changed my views on many issues, but I still want to help shape future generations. I believe our future is held in the hands of today’s children and it is everyone’s responsibility, and an educator’s privilege, to help children discover who they are and whom they can be. While there are many approaches and disciplines related to education, I believe it is naà ¯ve to think that any one approach is all-inclusive. Just as several subjects are studied to make a whole education, several approaches, when combined, can create a more wholesome educational experience. I agree with the Progressivism view that education must be relevant to the needs and interests of students and that learning increases when we are engaged in meaningful activities. A student’s full potential cannot be reached if his/her basic needs such as food, clothing, and compassion are not met. While we are not social workers, we can show the student that he/she is valued and cared for by the way we interact with him/her. Likewise, if a student is not interested in the subject being taught, he/she will be less likely to concentrate and learn. It is our job as educators to create interesting environments with stimulating approaches to learning. It has been my experience that the Behaviorism approach of positive reinforcement is a very effective method. If we, as teachers, provide positive reinforcement whenever students perform a desired behavior/task, they soon will learn to perform the behavior/task on their own. Children need to learn on their own in a relaxed environment and be given support when appropriate. After the Management MBA 2019

I have high hopes for the future MBA holders of the world. I am hoping that as they get their feet wet in the working world and pursue this great degree, that they will learn from the example of their bosses, and move forward with the knowledge that sometimes, no matter how much education you have, there isnt an excuse for being unbearable in the workplace. I am writing this in light of a boss I know that single handedly turned a safe and secure corporate America into a horrific experience with his public relations stunts and lack of honesty. It is important to keep things in perspective, and realize that there are good things in every person. This is definitely true, and I would be able to easily sit down and write a list of this particular boss good qualities, but unfortunately the bad has outweighed the good. It compels me to write this so that future managers of the world know that some tactics are just not good, no matter how good your intentions may be. .ub3029359fe3f088c47f4f1516d8fb43f { padding:0px; margin: 0; padding-top:1em!important; padding-bottom:1em!important; width:100%; display: block; font-weight:bold; background-color:#eaeaea; border:0!important; border-left:4px solid #34495E!important; box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -moz-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -o-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); -webkit-box-shadow: 0 1px 2px rgba(0, 0, 0, 0.17); text-decoration:none; } .ub3029359fe3f088c47f4f1516d8fb43f:active, .ub3029359fe3f088c47f4f1516d8fb43f:hover { opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; text-decoration:none; } .ub3029359fe3f088c47f4f1516d8fb43f { transition: background-color 250ms; webkit-transition: background-color 250ms; opacity: 1; transition: opacity 250ms; webkit-transition: opacity 250ms; } .ub3029359fe3f088c47f4f1516d8fb43f .ctaText { font-weight:bold; color:inherit; text-decoration:none; font-size: 16px; } .ub3029359fe3f088c47f4f1516d8fb43f .post Title { color:#000000; text-decoration: underline!important; font-size: 16px; } .ub3029359fe3f088c47f4f1516d8fb43f:hover .postTitle { text-decoration: underline!important; } READ A Master's Degree in Criminal Justice ManagementDouble Standards In this particular company, we mentor young people, and they are deducted points and are punished accordingly for using vulgarities on campus. This sets the model for hypocrisy and though he has since had this brought to his attention and he has cut down significantly, he has still set the example of hypocrisy. This is a very difficult thing to reverse. In other instances, this has been taken a little bit farther, by demanding loyalty from employees while demeaning them at the same time.
